The GIC1 assessment is completed online from home.
The GIC2 practical assessment is completed in your workplace or another suitable workplace.
There is no requirement to attend an assessment centre.
Can I study GIC2 before completing GIC1?
It is recommended to complete GIC1 before attempting the GIC2 practical assessment.
Although GIC2 mainly focuses on Elements 5–11, knowledge from Elements 1.1, 1.2, and 3.4 is also required to successfully complete the assessment.
How long does the NEBOSH Certificate take to complete?
This is a 10-day virtual E-learning training course followed by the required assessments.
What is the difference between the National and International General Certificate?
The National Certificate is based on UK legislation and is recognised worldwide. If you are planning to work in the UK at any point, we would recommend you complete the National General Certificate.
The International Certificate is based on International Standards of Best Practice and is recognised by employers outside of the UK, however is generally not the preferred qualification for working in the UK.
Is the certificate I receive the same if I study Online as when I study in the Classroom?
Yes, the Certificate is the exact same. You cannot tell the method of study from the Certificate.
What can I study once I have completed the General Certificate?
If you are looking to study a higher level H&S qualification, the NVQ lavel 6 diploma will be the most suitable course to study.
Alternatively, you can broaden your knowledge by studying one or more of the more specialist courses.
Do I need to complete the NEBOSH Health & Safety at Work Award first?
No. The Certificate can be studied by students with no prior health and safety experience.
What education level is the International General Certificate?
The General Certificate is a level 3 qualification (EQF) which is the equivalent to A-levels in the UK.
What happens if I fail my assessment?
If you are referred on an assessment, you can book a resit with our exams team. When you receive your results, you will also be sent a mark breakdown of your paper from NEBOSH directly.
For GIC2 (the practical assessment) you will receive feedback from the NEBOSH examiner which will help to improve your work. You can then resubmit at the next exam date.
Please note you will need to pay the NEBOSH assessment fee again.
Can I access past exam papers?
NEBOSH does not release past papers for any of their assessments. However, you can find examiner reports and a sample question paper on the NEBOSH website.
What can I study once I have completed the General Certificate?
After completing your International General Certificate, there are a number of options available to further develop your skills and career. If you are interested in progressing into a senior H&S role, a Level 6 qualification will provide the appropriate level of depth.
You can also improve your knowledge in more specialised areas such as IOSH, Train the Trainer or ISO 45001 management systems, or add environmental sustainability to your portfolio.
Please get in touch if you would like to discuss your options with our Customer Advisory Team.
